What is Fotona laser?
Fotona laser is a laser facelift treatment that is non-invasive and non-surgical. Its powerful laser machine is equipped with a handheld device. This device or wand delivers heat energy targeting the different layers of the skin, passing through the face’s oral cavity interior as well as the outer skin, delivering anti-aging results like magic.
How does Fotona laser work?
Fotona laser has four different modes that are used consecutively to achieve skin tightening and lifting. These four modes are:
- SmoothLiftin mode
- FRAC3 mode
- PIANO mode
- SupErficial mode
SmoothLiftin mode. This is the first step to jumpstart the Fotona laser anti-aging procedure. SmoothLiftin involves getting the laser device inside the mouth and delivering the heat energy in the target areas within the oral cavity.
FRAC3 mode. Step two of Fotona laser concentrates on reducing the appearance of deep skin creases on the skin’s outer surface. This step also targets to banish obvious skin pigmentations, making the tone of the skin look even all throughout.
PIANO mode. The goal of this step is to produce more collagen and achieve tightening of the skin. Its effect can be seen immediately as the skin lifts naturally from both the inner and outer layers and the results last for a long period of time.
SupErficial mode. To complete the anti-aging procedure using Fotona laser, a light laser peel is administered to the surface of the skin, making it appear rejuvenated, firm, and glowing.
Who are the best candidates for Fotona laser?
The best candidates for Fotona laser are those who wish to restore their face’s youthful appearance with mild symptoms of ageing. It is safe to use for all types and colours of skin. To be more specific, you may consider this anti-aging laser procedure if you:

What are the preparations needed before a Fotona laser procedure?
Patients must undergo a thorough consultation with a doctor who is certified and trained to perform a Fotona laser procedure. During the consultation, your health will be assessed and your doctor will ask you about what results you would like to see after completing the procedure. Once this is done, your Fotona laser treatment will be scheduled.
There is no major preparation needed on the day of the procedure, but it is highly recommended that patients come for their treatment without wearing any make up. The main reason for this is that the face will be cleansed and sanitised before the procedure, so the time and effort spent to apply the makeup on might just be wasted.
What happens during a Fotona laser procedure?
After cleansing and sanitising the face, you will be given safety goggles to place over and protect your eyes. Next, your doctor sets up the right laser temperatures for treating your skin. As soon as everything is in place, the procedure begins by inserting the laser wand inside your mouth to heat up and stimulate collagen from this side. Any part of the skin that does not belong to the target area is left untouched and undamaged. After working on the intraoral cavity, the skin’s deeper and superficial layers are then targeted. This step corrects any imperfections, like pigmentation and sun damage, and firms the skin using the thermal heat. The third phase uses an ND:YAG fractional laser. This process is done to stimulate collagen production and tighten the skin from the inside out. Finally, a laser peel is done to resurface and brighten the skin.
The Fotona laser procedure is done in under an hour and no pain is felt from start to finish.
What happens after a Fotona laser procedure?
The common side effects after a Fotona laser procedure are a warm, prickling, and tightening feeling throughout the treatment area. This may feel a bit weird, but it should not be a cause of concern as it is proof that the procedure is working effectively. The surface of the outer skin may appear reddish. This is only temporary and should clear out after a few hours.
Because the procedure does not involve any incisions or injections, you can instantly resume with your normal activities after your treatment. No downtime is needed at all.
For aftercare, remember to always protect your skin from the direct heat of the sun. Use SPF50 sunscreen and drink a lot of water to keep your skin hydrated. Avoid using makeup in the next 24 hours. Skip using hot water and use a gentle cleanser on your face in the next two days.
